Über die Künstlerin
Maria Linnemann wurde 1947 in Amsterdam, Niederlande, geboren, und wuchs in England auf. Hier begeisterte sie schon frühzeitig die englische, schottische und irische Folklore.
Sie studierte von 1966 bis 1970 Dirigieren, Klavier und Geige an der Royal Acadamy of Music in London. Ihr Gitarrenspiel verdankt sie dem Gitarristen, Bratschisten und Künstler Martin Nicolai (1904-1993), der auch ein exzellenter Komponist war.
Seit 1971 lebt sie in der Bundesrepublik, wo sie als freiberufliche Musikerin und Pädagogin tätig ist. Für fünf Jahre übte sie eine Lehrtätigkeit in China aus. Sie schreibt auch Musicals sowie Musik für Puppentheater. Neben ihrer Konzerttätigkeit mit vorwiegend eigenen Kompositionen gibt sie Workshops und ist regelmäßig Jurymitglied bei Jugend musiziert. Im Juli 2026 gehörte sie zur dreiköpfigen internationalen Jury des 7. Miguel Llolet International Composition Competition for Classical Guitar in Barcelona.
Marias Reisen führten sie um die ganze Welt und inspirierten sie zu über 500 Kompositionen für die Gitarre. 2006 kehrte sie nach fünfjähriger Lehrtätigkeit in China nach Deutschland zurück, um ihre Karriere als Musikerin wieder aufzunehmen.
